There is no one–size–fits–all answer to this question. A good chunk of happy mood is controlled by your genes but there’s a lot you can do to make yourself happier. Many techniques have been repeatedly tested and even worked with the clinically depressed.
Happiness, like so many other things, must be cultivated and actively pursued. Some days are easy breezy. You wake up in a great mood, your hair looks terrific and the sun is shining. Other days you wake up and drink all the coffee, hate your clothes, stub your toe and wonder how you’re going to get through the day. To reduce the latter and increase the former, take action!

- Be yourself
- Follow your heart
- Live in the present
- Do what you love
- Spend time with people you love
- Be positive
- Embrace change
- Appreciate life
- Take time for yourself (self-care)
- Be grateful for what you have
- Finding a hobby or activity that brings joy
- Sleep enough
- Wake up early and enjoy the peace and quiet of the morning.
- Make your bed as soon as you get up – This will give you a sense of accomplishment and will make your room look neater.
- Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up
- Take a walk outside and enjoy the fresh air.
- Exercise – it releases endorphins that make you happy.
- Eat a balanced nutritious diet
- Avoid stress and anxiety
- Practice a little escapism.
- Pet a dog or cat
- Help someone (Whether you volunteer regularly or help your elderly neighbor take his trash out – doing for others is a powerful way to increase your life satisfaction, boost happiness, find meaning, and connect)
